plainly.

You give us your name, your email, a phone number if you choose to, what your message is about, and the message itself. It is sent through Netlify, the company that hosts this website, which emails it to The Style Edit and to AISymmetric, who builds and runs the site, and keeps a copy in the site’s form records.

When you request a hold or order for pickup, we ask for your name, email and phone number (an email or a phone is enough for a hold), any note you add, the pieces you chose, and where you’d like to pick up.

These go to The Style Edit’s register — the point-of-sale system every sale goes through — where the hold or order is kept as the record of it. To let The Style Edit know it has arrived, only the hold or order number is emailed, through the website’s host — not your name, contact details or the pieces.

For a piece that’s coming soon, we ask for your name, an email or a phone number, and a size if you choose one. They go to The Style Edit’s register and are used only to tell you the piece has arrived — the email that lets The Style Edit know names only the piece. The request is deleted 90 days after we’ve told you or closed it, and one we never answer is deleted 180 days after you made it.

Card payments are handled by Stripe on its own secure checkout page. Your card details are entered with Stripe and never reach this website or the register. Stripe receives your email and what you’re buying so it can take the payment, and keeps its own record of it — see Stripe’s privacy policy.

Your bag is kept in your browser’s local storage so it survives a refresh. It holds only the pieces — name, size and photo — never your name, email or phone number.

Your name, email and phone number are never stored in your browser. While you pay, this browser tab’s session storage keeps your order number and a code that lets the site put the pieces back on the rack if you come back from the payment page without paying. After a hold request, it keeps the summary shown on the confirmation page — the pieces, the pickup choice and the request number. After you ask to hear when a piece is here, it notes only which piece, so The Style Edit isn’t emailed about it twice — and after a question about a pop-up, only which pop-up. It also keeps the pop-up calendar for ten minutes, so each page doesn’t fetch it again. Session storage is cleared when the tab is closed.

The site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It uses cookies and receives general information such as your browser, device and approximate location. The site’s fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser requests them from Google.

The website and its form records are hosted by Netlify. The register’s database, where holds, orders, requests to hear about a piece and questions about a pop-up are kept, is provided through Netlify by Neon. Payment records are kept by Stripe.
